A construction dashboard built around job profit.
In construction, the company can look profitable while individual jobs quietly lose money. This sample dashboard shows job margins, backlog, and over and under billing, so you see trouble while there's still time to fix it.
Sample dashboard
Every job, every draw, and the cash in between.
Blue Agave Builders is a fictional business and every number above is made up. Your dashboard is built from your own books, and only you and our team see it.
Reading the dashboard
What each number tells you.
Job gross margin
Contract revenue minus labor, materials, subcontractors, and equipment on each job. The company-wide number matters, but the job-by-job view is where you find the bid that went wrong.
Backlog
Signed work not yet done, in dollars and months. It tells you whether to bid aggressively, hire a crew, or be choosy about the next job.
Over and under billing
The gap between what you've billed and the work actually completed. Over-billing helps cash now but is owed in work later; under-billing means you've financed the customer's job.
Jobs over budget
Jobs where costs to date are running ahead of the estimate. Caught at 40% complete, there's time to change orders or fix the plan. Caught at closeout, it's just a loss.
Labor burden
Payroll taxes, workers' comp, insurance, and benefits on top of wages. If your estimates use an old burden rate, every bid is underpriced.
Retainage and cash
Money held back until a job is accepted, plus how many weeks of expenses your bank balance covers. Retainage can be a large share of what you're owed, so we track when it comes due.

What contractors ask about the dashboard.
Is this real client data?
No. Blue Agave Builders is a fictional contractor and every number on this page is made up. Your dashboard is built from your own books, and only you and our team see it.
What is over and under billing?
It compares what you've invoiced on a job with how much of the work is actually done. Billing ahead of the work (over-billing) means the customer is funding the job; billing behind it (under-billing) means you are. Lenders and bonding companies look closely at this number, usually on a work-in-progress (WIP) schedule.
Do you work with trade contractors as well as general contractors?
Yes. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, and other trade contractors track the same core numbers: job margin, backlog, labor burden, and cash. We fit the dashboard to how you bid and bill.
